Palo Alto’s unhoused residents are being offered temporary shelter opportunities in a Sunnyvale hotel as part of a broader effort to address homelessness in Santa Clara County. This comes amid delays in opening a planned modular housing site in Palo Alto (originally expected earlier in 2026).
In the meantime, cities including Sunnyvale are placing unhoused individuals into hotel rooms for short-term stays, typically up to about 30 days, funded and managed through partnerships with nonprofits such as WeHOPE. These hotel placements provide not just a safe place to sleep but also case management, meals, and connections to services aimed at helping people move toward more stable housing.
