Inspiring Hope Through Philanthropy: Fred K. Smith Joins LifeMoves Leadership | LifeMoves Skip to main content

LifeMoves is excited to welcome Fred K. Smith as our new Chief Philanthropy Officer to lead our dynamic Development team, driving and growing support commensurate with our lofty ambitions. In partnership with the CEO, Board of Directors, executive leadership, and staff, Fred will help position LifeMoves as an undeniable leading force in ending homelessness in Silicon Valley.

A seasoned fundraising executive and trusted philanthropic advisor, Fred brings more than 25 years of experience building support for universities on the West Coast and in the Midwest and providing strategic fundraising guidance to nonprofits across the country.

Fred joined LifeMoves as Interim Chief Philanthropy Officer in spring 2025, working closely with staff and board leadership while advancing key fundraising priorities. His career includes senior advancement roles at nationally recognized universities such as Stanford, Northwestern, and Santa Clara, where he contributed to large, transformational campaigns and cultivated meaningful donor relationships. He also previously served as Principal of Divitiae Advisors, guiding nonprofits and philanthropists alike.

Having lived in the Valley for fifteen years in Cupertino, San Jose, Santa Clara, and Menlo Park, Fred is inspired to reverse the negative trends across the homelessness landscape. With two teenage sons and a wife who is also a community builder and social

impact advisor, he is impacted daily by our cause and looks forward to being an active part of the solution. A proud Michigan Wolverine, Fred has coached in Alpine Little League, serves as an advisor and mentor to professionals and organizations working with various causes, and is on the Silicon Valley Advisory Board of 10,000 Degrees. Constantly trying to improve on what remains a double-digit handicap, Fred has yet to find a golf course he doesn’t enjoy.

As LifeMoves looks ahead to its next decade, Fred’s leadership will help deepen community engagement, inspire generosity, and strengthen the resources that make pathways out of homelessness possible for thousands of neighbors across our region.
