Homelessness is Solvable

Here in Silicon Valley, homelessness is all around us. People want to do something about it, but the problem seems so large. There are approximately 11,000 people experiencing homelessness in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties — our neighbors living on our streets, in our parks, and in their cars.

What can be done? The solution requires more housing, more support for people to stabilize their lives, and more involvement and investment from local communities to ensure success. With the support of the government, corporations, community partners, and philanthropic people like you, LifeMoves is helping to change the trajectory of homelessness in Silicon Valley. Join us.

Our Vision

We envision thriving communities where every neighbor has a home.

Innovations in Solving Homelessness

Getting people off the streets and into housing — it’s a top priority. And strides are being made. Last year, we launched a new housing facility for 128 people per year. This site was built and operating in a record 8-months time at a fraction of the cost of traditional congregate housing. At the opening, the Governor called this a model that should be replicated.

New Developments

Now, the State of California has awarded LifeMoves with contracts to build four new sites, with several more in the pipeline. Collectively, these will help move more than 2,000 people off our streets and into a supportive environment so they can stablize their lives and find permanent housing. That’s a huge chunk of the homeless population. And that’s annually.

With funding from California’s Project Homekey and private philanthropists, these supportive housing villages will be built at a much lower cost and quicker time than traditional congregate facilities.

The innovations with the new facilities include:

  • Modern design that fits into neighborhoods.
  • Environmentally-friendly construction.
  • Rapid deployment to get people off the streets quickly.
  • Separate locking entry doors for residents to protect people’s possessions and dignity.
Scaling for Impact

These new LifeMoves sites are in addition to the 7,500 people that LifeMoves currently serves in our 30 facilities throughout Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties.

Supportive Services

The key to our success is our support services, including counseling, behavioral health, job training, child care, and other services that help people get their lives back on track so they can find sustainable permanent housing and not end up on the street again.

Changing Lives

Our end result is having a huge impact on people like Jen, Danny, and Audrey. A veteran suffering from substance abuse, with support from LifeMoves, Danny was able to get his life in order, reunite with his daughter, get a job, and find a new home.
