A New Start: How Community Helped One Family Rebuild | LifeMoves Skip to main content

When Freddy and his daughter, Valentina, arrived in the United States, they carried nothing more than resilience and a dream for a better life. Valentina entered her junior year of high school, facing the challenges of a new language and unfamiliar environment. Freddy, meanwhile, was suddenly unemployed— overwhelmed by the daunting path of starting over in a new country.

At LifeMoves, we know that rebuilding doesn’t happen in isolation. At LifeMoves Georgia Travis House, an interim housing community that serves families, our dedicated team did what they do best—walked alongside Freddy and Valentina as they worked towards a path forward. Our Children’s Services Coordinators (CSC) worked directly with Valentina’s school to advocate for her success. She not only caught up on her education, she thrived—ultimately earning her high school diploma with pride.

Freddy found employment, began budgeting and saving, and took meaningful steps toward building a stable future for himself and his daughter. Yet one major hurdle remained: securing permanent housing. With determination and support from their case manager and housing specialist, and receiving rental assistance, Freddy and Valentina were finally able to move into an apartment they now proudly call home.

Their journey is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when compassion meets action. At LifeMoves, we believe in the strength of families and the power of community to help make the impossible possible.
